About

The story about how I arrived here…

As early as I can remember, I have always loved drawing and creating things, absorbed and content in the process. Throughout my life, my heart has always steered me along creative paths, like studying a Stop-Motion Animation degree which led to employment at Warners Bros on Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride. In 2005, I found myself at another creative opportunity and began a job ice sculpting at Ice2Art. In 2006, my mentor Adrian Innocent and I, entered an international ice sculpting competition in St. Petersburg. It was a 24-hour competition, set in the courtyard of the Hermitage Museum, using blocks of ice, harvested from the frozen canals. Having only been ice-sculpting for 6 months and being the only female in the competition, I was thrilled to receive 5th place and so happy that Adrian got 3rd.

Having completed my ice sculpting training, I decided to return to university to study for Post-compulsory Education Training (PcET) which later led to teaching Art and Media at a sixth-form college in my hometown, Cardiff. Still yearning to be creative, alongside teaching, I set up and ran a successful ice sculpting company for several years, teaching classes and providing ice sculptures for weddings, corporate events and several esteemed clients. Notable clients were the BBC (sculpting for Scrum V, BBC Sport, appearing on Rhod Gilbert’s work experience), FA Wales, S4C, UK Military, National Eistedfodd, John Lewis and Cancer UK among others.

When COVID-19 struck back in 2020, we all experienced a huge change to our lives; at the time I was struggling with anxiety and depression, so lockdown was a much-needed time of reflection for me and I found the process of painting my therapy and so I have returned to my first love.

Locking down in Monmouth, I was captivated by the beautiful places I saw walking in the local area, inspired to transfer the experiences of a walk or subject to the canvas. Using a variety of media, processes and techniques, I have been exploring various methods to capture subjects that have moved me and reconnected me with a sense of purpose. Favouring places of contemplation and subjects whose qualities are often overlooked or undervalued. My aim is to pay homage to these tranquil places and beautiful subjects I discovered by walking in nature, the moments of solitude they gave me and the awakening I experienced through an emotional turning point in my life.

My debut exhibition, ‘Awakening’ was held at Giles Gallery in Pontyclun from 13th – 31st July 2021.
